Bottle Wall Hanging

Project #13103

Send your own special message with this Bottle Wall Hanging. The Bottle shapes are easy to sew together. Sizzix quilting dies are great for beginners and a fun shape for advanced sewers, too. To create with a variety of fabrics, collect fat eighths, trade with a friendship group or use leftover fabric from your scraps basket.

  • Fat 1/4 = approximately 18" x 21"

Piecing the Quilt:

  1. Arrange the Bottles in rows, 7 across by 6 down.
  2. To sew Bottles together, take two different color Bottles, with right sides together, line up the curve of one piece with the curve of the other. Match the two outside edges and pin. Match the center and pin. You might want to place some extra pins along the rest of the curve to make it easier to ease the pieces together. Carefully sew the seam together, making sure the pieces remain aligned along the outside edge.
  3. Continue sewing Bottles in the same manner, alternating colors, until you have 7 in a row. Press the seam towards the darker color. Repeat to form 5 more rows.
  4. Sew the 6 rows together to form the quilt center. Make sure the rows are in the correct order and are not turned upside-down. It is easiest to do this by laying out all the rows on a design wall or the floor, then carefully picking up the rows and sewing them together. Press.

  1. Layer the backing, batting and quilt top. Quilt by hand or machine, as desired.
  2. Sew binding strips together to form one long strip. Fold wrong sides together, lengthwise, and press.
  3. With a 1/4" seam, sew the raw edges of the binding to the edges of the right side of the quilt. Turn the folded edge of the binding to the back side of the quilt and stitch in place by hand, mitering the corners.
