Hello, crafty friends! I'm Anna Wight, and I am SUPER excited to be a new contributor here on the Sizzix blog sharing Sizzix inspiration and tutorials with you! I wanted my first project shared here on the Sizzix blog to represent me not only as a crafter, but for it to share a bit about me on a personal level as well.
I live on a farm, and much of my inspiration comes from rural living. Canning jars are a big part of my life on the farm, so the Canning Jar 3-D die provided me with the perfect project idea to share with you today - a handy refrigerator magnet, embellished with a mini wooden clothespin for keeping lists, notes or reminders close at hand.
I started by adhering some beautiful printed papers to chipboard. I die cut the jar twice so that I could adhere two chipboard layers together for a stronger surface, making sure to have patterned paper that would face forwards as well as backwards on the chipboard pieces when adhered together. I die cut the lid once, for use on the front of the project. Once the layers were die cut, I inked all of the edges with brown Distress ink. I used a tracing wheel to add some dotted character lines on the lid.
I gathered up some of my favorite embellishments. I wrapped the top of the jar with a pretty cotton lace that I hand dyed, giving it an older appearance. I stamped "Believe in Miracles" on a banner I die cut using the Sizzix Banners #2 framelit. I inked the edges of the banner, adding a bit of warmth and age to the paper. Using some of my hand dyed seam binding, I fashioned a bow to embellish the linen heart clothespin. I dressed up an antique mother of pearl button with hemp twine, and adhered it to the center of the bow.
Using hot glue, I adhered the embellished clothespin to the top of the jar, and the stamped tag in place. Finally, I added a smudging of Antique Linen Distress Stickles to the edges of the jar, cotton lace, and linen heart.
The backside of the jar is clean and simple with three magnets glued in place, for a sturdy hold. This would be an ideal spot to add a personal note, if giving this item as a gift.
Projects like this are fun and easy to make, and are a good way to use up some of your embellishment odds-and-ends. They make wonderful gifts, and are so easy to personalize! But I'm going to enjoy this pretty jar magnet on my own refrigerator, for not only as a place to keep special notes, but also as a reminder of the time I get to spend with you here on the Sizzix blog!
