Hey everyone, Catherine on the blog today to share a Sizzix tutorial for a fun Mother's Day Card you can whip up when you have a free afternoon. I don't know about you, but when someone said that Mother's Day was coming up soon I kinda panicked because it seems like it really crept up on me this year!
This year I thought I'd give my Mother something she really loves -- gardening seeds and supplies. Since I don't know what she needs, I thought a gift certificate would be the perfect solution. Since I'm really NOT a fan of giving gift cards I thought I'd include some seed packets for her to plant in her garden when she's ready!
I started with the Sizzix Scoreboards XL Mini-Album Die and added the Movers + Shakers Decorative Frame on the front cover. I grabbed my ruler to make sure it was center perfectly on the front panel and then cut a piece of 140 lb. card stock for my card base. For a little pattern, I embossed the cover with the Vintaj Textured Impressions Nouveau Tiles.
The Mini Album die comes with a cool spine that allows you to bind the pages, but since I was making a card with a pocket inside instead of an album I needed to change the way it folded.
I folded the sections so my book would have one section on the spine and then stitched the layers together to secure them. So the stitching would be visible, I used the widest stitch possible. Once the base was ready I added some color with pink acrylic paint set it aside to dry. I also created the other components for the card. I cut two butterflies from the Movers + Shakers Mini-Butterfly set and stamped Mom on each side as well as add some color with acrylic paint. I also cut a panel for the pocket and an identical panel of the cover using patterned paper.
I wanted the butterflies to look like they were flying in the center of the card, so I suspended them with string. To do that I encapsulated the string in between the two butterflies with lots of double stick tape. I used double stick tape to secure the string to the inside of the front panel.
To keep the layers together I added the patterned paper panel to the inside and stitched around the edge to secure the layers together.
To finish up I attached the pocket panel to the inside of the card.
The only thing left is to shop for seeds and a gift card to the local Nursery and my Mother's Day present is complete!
I love the way it turned out, and I think my Mom will too!
Thanks for joining me today!
