Hi everyone! Jan, here today, sharing a card using Lori Whitlock's new Gatefold Card dies. I tend to love anything gatefold, so I was excited to use these card sets.
I'm being stubborn, I want to hang onto fall just a little while longer, so my card has a fall theme. I just got back from a week on Vancouver Island, and I couldn't resist visiting my favourite place, The Victoria Butchart Gardens. The Japanese Garden was so beautiful with the most amazing colours, how could I not be inspired use fall colours in my project!
There's me surrounded by gorgeous Maple trees.
I've used the Sizzix Lori Whitlock Tree Gatefold Thinlits set. There's a main card die in the set, which cuts and scores your card base. I used cardstock for this piece. My Sizzix sandwich for die cutting Thinlit dies was: Standard Magnetic Platform for thin dies, Standard Cutting Pad, paper, Thinlits die (cutting side facing down) and Standard cutting pad.
I liked the way the card sample on the packaging photo had the tree cut out in a different colour. I cut the two front sides in a brown cardstock.
After die cutting these pieces, I trimmed off the edging, leaving just the tree. This creates a frame around the tree cut out. Adhere your tree pieces to the matching card front.
Die-cut the inside piece in a contrasting colour.
There's some embellishment dies in these sets, and I think these oval pieces are perfect for cards. Love the one with the pin dots! After die-cutting, i inked the edges and pop-dotted the cream piece on top of the scalloped.
To keep my gatefold card from opening up, I punch two small holes (1/8"punch) close together, in the center, close to the bottom of the top oval. I threaded my ribbon from the back through the two holes, leaving a loop to place around my card.
I cut out two "thanks", and using tiny glue dots, adhered one on top of the other, giving my word a little more dimension. This was adhered to my oval. I also die-cut the small leaves in different fall colours to add a few to my tree card fronts.
A few hand cut flowers were adhered also to the oval. Slip the ribbon over the card, tighten, then tie a bow. This ribbon loop can just be slipped on or off the card. This set makes it so easy and fast to create a card that can be changed to suit whatever occasion you are creating for.
I had three different die sets, so I was inspired to create two more cards. They all are assembled the same way, I just changed the closures on each one. The other two sets are Lori Whitlock's Lace Gatefold Thinlits set and Butterflies Gatefold Thinlits set.
Here's my fall themed card set! Wouldn't this make a great little gift, hostess, thank you, or even teacher gift. I think the doily one is my favourite, but then I'm partial to gingham and doilies! That one has a paper sleeve with the square embellishment for it's sentiment. The butterfly and swirl one has two holes that die-cut in the front halves, where ribbon can be threaded through. My leaves were hand cut from patterned paper and the flowers were purchased embellishments.
Thanks for stopping by, hope you enjoyed my fall cards!
