Sweet Surprise from Bigz XL

Here's a sweet surprise from the new Bigz XL 3-D Pop Up dies. The cupcake was made with the 3-D Ball die. I started by cutting and assembling the Ball out of brown cardstock, then die-cut the pieces again out of pink, trimmed the edges with decorative scissors and adhered them to the top of the Ball. Here are a few tips to avoid disappointment:

First, I put a thin coat of tacky glue on the pink pieces and sprinkled on the glitter and beads, but the beads started to pop off after the glue was dry. So I used a little paintbrush and applied a thin coat of Diamond Glaze over everything, and it worked like a charm.

Second, for the covers of the card, I highly recommend using chipboard or mat board! We don't call this a Pop-Up Ball for nothing! I've tried putting it inside a cardstock card and did not get the result I was looking for. The easiest way to do this is to start with one piece of 12" x 6" paper, patterned or solid – it's your choice. This will be the inside of the card. Fold it in half. Next take two 6" x 6" pieces of chipboard and adhere them to the wrong side of the paper (one on the front, one on the back). That will give one continuous piece of paper on the inside of the card. For the outside of the card, you can choose two 6" x 6" pieces of whatever cute coordinating paper you want.

Also, have a plan as to how to keep the card shut. I made a little ribbon loop that attaches to a button on the front of the card, but you can just as easily tie it shut by wrapping a long piece of ribbon around the whole thing. One last thing … when assembling the Ball, always, always use the super sticky red tape!

Have fun!
