Notes

Piecing the Block

The blocks are made by alternating the two blue fabrics on one side of the orange chain and two brown fabrics on the other side. The two orange fabrics for the chain are also alternated. Use the quilt photograph as a reference for color placement. 10 blocks have VW22 Earth and DF49 Aqua on the outside of the block and the remaining 10 blocks have DS01 Piney Woods and TW24 Ice on the outside.

  1. Use the piecing diagram as a reference.
  2. Sew 1A to 1B. Press.
  3. Sew 2A to 2B. Press.
  4. Sew 1A/1B to 2A/2B. Press.
  5. Sew 3 to piece made in step 4. Press.
  6. Sew 4 to piece made in step 5. Press.
  7. Sew 5A to 5B. Press.
  8. Sew 5A/5B to piece made in step 6. Press.
  9. Sew 6A to 6B. Press.
  10. Sew 6A/6B to piece made in step 8. Press.
  11. Sew 7 to piece made in step 10. Press.
  12. Sew 8 to piece made in step 11. Press.
  13. Sew 9A to 9B. Press.
  14. Sew 9A/9B to piece made in step 13. Press.
  15. Sew 10A to 10B. Press.
  16. Sew 10A/10B to piece made in step 14. Press.

Repeat steps 1 through 16 nineteen more times, till all the blocks are complete.

Assembling the Quilt Top

  1. Using the quilt picture as a reference, arrange the blocks. There will be four blocks in each row, and five rows make up the quilt.
  2. Sew the blocks together into rows. Press
  3. Sew the rows together into the quilt top. Press.

Finishing

  1. Sew the two 1 1/2 yd pieces of the backing fabric together along the selvedge edge to make the backing.
  2. Layer the backing, batting and quilt top. Quilt by hand or machine, as desired. Sew the binding strips together to form one long strip. Fold the binding in half, lengthwise, with wrong sides together and press. Sew the raw edges of the binding to the edges of the right side of the quilt. Turn the folded edge of the binding to the back side of the quilt and stitch in place by hand, mitering the corners.
