Happy Birthday Banner

Make a student’s birthday extra special with their own birthday banner.

Adhesive, Cardstock or construction paper, Cord, twine or ribbon, Crayons, colored markers or pens, Scissors, Tape

The teacher will die-cut the materials for student use prior to the lesson.

  1. Fold cardstock or construction paper in half.
  2. Place a strip of tape on the cupcake die to determine where to place the fold for die-cutting.
  3. Abut the folded edge of the paper to the tape and die-cut the cupcake.
  4. Using assorted colors for the bottom, icing and candle of the cupcake, die-cut two cupcakes from unfolded pieces of paper, leaving one cupcake whole.
  5. Trim along the perforations for the icing on one cupcake. Attach the trimmed icing to the whole cupcake. 
  6. Add details with crayons or markers.
  7. Decorate the candle and slide it into the slit on the embellished whole cupcake.
  8. Place adhesive on the front of the folded cupcake and attach the embellished cupcake to the folded cupcake.
  9. Fold several sheets of assorted colors of paper in half.
  10. Keeping the folded edge of the paper just inside the top cutting edge of each letter, die-cut the Block Capital Letters for the phrase Happy Birthday.
  11. Cut a length of cord, twine or ribbon long enough to make the banner.
  12. Place the folded cupcake and letters along the ribbon and attach each letter and the embellished cupcake to the ribbon with adhesive (Main Photo).
