Race to the Finish Quilt

Fabric Requirements:

Notes:

• Finished Size: 49 3/4" x 52 1/4"
• All seam allowances are 1/4" unless noted.
• * = Adhere fusible adhesive to back of fabric before die-cutting the shapes.
• WOF = width of fabric
• Cut all border and binding Strips before preparing remaining fabric with fusible adhesive.

Assembling the Quilt:

1. Arrange the Diamonds on the background approximately 6" from the bottom along the left side. Heat fuse in place with an iron and stitch along the edges of the flag give the white checkers definition from the background.
2. Using the quilt image as a guide, arrange the Cars on the background, staggering their placement. Heat fuse in place using an iron and stitch around the shapes as desired.
3. Sew 1 1/2" black interior borders to the sides first. Then sew the top and bottom borders.
4. Measure from the top to the bottom of quilt top. This is the side length of the exterior borders. Cut the red and yellow 3 1/2" strips to this length and sew in place.
5. Measure from the outside edges of the quilt top. This is the top and bottom length of the exterior borders. Cut the blue and green 3 1/2" strips to this length and sew in place.

Finishing:

1. Layer the backing, batting and quilt top. Quilt by hand or machine, as desired.
2. Sew binding strips together to form one long strip. Fold wrong sides together, lengthwise, and press.
3. With a 1/4" seam, sew the raw edges of the binding to the edges of the right side of the quilt. Turn the folded edge of the binding to the back side of the quilt and stitch in place by hand, mitering the corners.
