Assembling the Project:

  1. Arrange the shapes in a pleasing manner on the background. When satisfied with the arrangement, sew shapes to the background using a blanket stitch.
  2. Fold background fabric in half. Fold in half again to find the center points along each side of the perimeter of the background and press the center points. Unfold fabric. Take each 2 1/2" x 24" Strip, fold in half widthwise, and press a crease to find the middle. Match up the pressed folds on the each side of the background with crease marks on the border Strips and pin.
  3. Sew the 2 1/2" x 24" Strips to the background, leaving a 1/4" from each end. Miter the corners.

Finishing:

  1. Layer the backing, batting and quilt top. Quilt by hand or machine, as desired.
  2. Sew binding strips together to form one long strip. Fold wrong sides together, lengthwise, and press.
  3. With a 1/4" seam, sew the raw edges of the binding to the edges of the right side of the quilt. Turn the folded edge of the binding to the back side of the quilt and stitch in place by hand, mitering the corners.
