Notes:
- Finished Size: 38 1/2" x 51 1/2"
- All seam allowances are 1/4" unless noted.
- WOF = width of fabric
- This quilt can be made with leftover scraps of 1 1/2", 2" and 2 1/2" Strips. If you do not have any of these, you will need to cut your scraps into 13" long 1 1/2", 2" or 2 1/2" Strips.
Making the Blocks:
- Randomly sew your Strips together to make twelve 13" x 13" pieces. These do not have to be exactly 13" and do not have to be trimmed Square. This is the fabric for your Heart appliqués. Press carefully so Strips are straight and flat.
- Using the manufacturer's directions, fuse the adhesive to the wrong side of the 13" Squares pieced fabric. Repeat 11 times.
- Using the Heart die, cut out 12 large Hearts. Lay the striped fabric on the die so you end up with some Hearts that are vertical, horizontal or diagonally striped.
- Remove the paper from the back of each Heart.
- Center a Heart within each of one of the 12 1/2" Squares. Heat fuse in place with an iron. Repeat with the remaining 11 Hearts.
- Using a zigzag or decorative stitch, sew the Hearts in place.
Assembling the Quilt Top:
- Arrange the 12 Heart blocks on a design wall in 4 rows of 3 blocks. Leave a space for sashing between each block, rearranging until you are satisfied with how it looks.
- Place a 1 1/2" x 12 1/2" yellow sashing Strip between each block in a row.
- Sew the 4 rows of blocks and sashing together. Each row will have 3 blocks and 2 pieces of sashing. Press. Return to the design wall leaving a space between the rows for sashing.
- Place a 1 1/2" x 38 1/2" yellow sashing Strip between each row.
- Sew the 4 rows of blocks and 3 rows of plain sashing together to make the quilt center. Press.
Finishing:
- Layer the backing, batting and quilt top. Quilt by hand or machine, as desired.
- Sew the binding strips together to form one long strip. Fold the binding in half, lengthwise, with wrong sides together and press.
- Sew the raw edges of the binding to the edges of the right side of the quilt. Turn the folded edge of the binding to the back side of the quilt and stitch in place by hand, mitering the corners.
