How to make a Mixed Media Candle Holder

Other Supplies: Paintbrush and Glass Candle Holder or Jar.

1. Use a paint brush to cover your jar (including the adhered die cut pieces) with a thin layer of Express Glue. This will act as a glaze over the painted jar which, once dry, will ensure the paint does not peel from the glass in the next stages.
2. Once the glue has dried, begin painting the jar using black Sizzix Creamy Acrylic.
3. Die cut the Ghost Town #2 die by Tim Holtz and adhere the smaller of the die-cut houses to the front of your jar. Use a lot of Express Glue for this as the element will have to wrap around the container.
4. Once the paint has dried, use the Sizzix Hot Glue Gun to apply a thick layer of glue to the rim of the candle holder. Add in some vertical glue drips. When the glue has cooled, continue painting over the glue drips with black paint until the outer jar is completely covered. Then, let the paint dry.
5. Take some acrylic paint and apply it to a craft mat. Take a small amount onto a medium flat paint brush and take off the excess on the craft mat. Lightly brush over the surface of the jar so that the paint transfers to the brush marks in the dry express glue, creating a subtle distressed finish.
6. Finally Take some silver and rose gold Lustre Wax and apply lightly to the outside of the jar. The colors can mix. This will give a dull metallic effect which will appear very subtle. (tip: Lustre wax should be applied in tiny amounts and built up. From the pot, apply some to your fingertip, then take off the excess on a disposable piece of scrap card so that there is a minimal amount on your finger. Then lightly apply to the surface keep building up until satisfied with the effect).
