Deck the Halls This Holiday Season With This Gorgeous Gift Card Holder!

Let me tell you a quick story that I feel you might relate to. So, I had a dear friend's birthday coming up and I had many wonderful thoughts of what would be the perfect present for her. I even browsed online for options. But then the week before the special day, my daughter, 9 at the time, came home with a sore throat. Within a day, my son, then 6, was sick too. And to top it all off, my husband had to leave town for an urgent business trip. The day snuck up on me and I showed up at the coffee shop to meet her very briefly with a gift card. I felt terrible. All I did was make a pocket for the gift card and decorate it. She was touched that I came and that I made the effort to make the best of the situation. She's a wonderful friend, I tell you and I learned that sometimes decking up a gift card package can make it a lot more special!

Hi, I'm Mou Saha and in today's tutorial I want to show you how to deck up a gift card package.  Let's begin by looking at the supplies I used.

Other Materials Used:

  • Watercolor paper
  • Paints and brush
  • Adhesive

And now let me walk you through the steps.

To diecut the Gift Card Package, create the following Sizzix Sandwich: on Sizzix Accessory - Standard Magnetic Platform for Wafer-Thin Dies, lay a Sizzix Accessory - Cutting Pad, Standard. Place watercolor paper cut to about 9" x 6" to fit through the Sizzix Big Shot machine on the Standard Cutting Pad. Lay the Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 6PK - Gift Card Package dies blade side down on the paper and cover with the other Standard Cutting Pad. Pass the entire Sizzix Sandwich through the Sizzix Big Shot machine.

Repeat the same Sizzix Sandwich to die-cut the Fold-up Bow, Gift Tag and Festive Greens using the Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 4PK - Fold-up Bows, Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 12PK - Gift Tags and Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 9PK - Festive Greens.

TIP: Die-cutting all the pieces out of white watercolor paper makes it easy for you to paint them in your favorite colors.

To diecut the monogram for the tag, create the following Sizzix Sandwich: on a Sizzix Accessory - Cutting Pad, Extended, lay the Sizzix Bigz XL Alphabet Die - Storybook blade side up. Place watercolor paper on the die and cover with the other Extended Cutting Pad. Pass the entire Sizzix Sandwich through the Sizzix Big Shot machine.

Add some texture to the Gift Card Package by embossing it. To emboss, create the following Sizzix Sandwich: place the die-cut Gift Card Package pocket inside the Sizzix Texture Fades Embossing Folder - Simple Snowflakes. Place the folder between two Standard Cutting Pads and lay them on the embossing platform of the Sizzix Accessory - Multipurpose Platform, Standard. Pass the whole Sizzix Sandwich through the Big Shot machine.

I used Gelatos pigment sticks to color my pieces. Feel free to use your favorite paint medium and colors.

Here are my colored pieces of the Gift Card Package.

And here are all the colored decorative die-cuts.

Use adhesive to attach the pieces as shown.

Add the monogram to the tag and assemble the bow and decorative pieces and secure in place with adhesive. Attach to the pocket.

Slide your gift card in the slots.

Place the card inside the pocket and your Gift Card Package is ready to gift!

Hope you enjoyed today's tutorial and have fun with these cute dies to dress up your last-minute gifts.
