Deck the Halls With This Holiday Home Decor DIY

Hi my fellow Sizzix fans, Mou here today with a painterly home decor tutorial to celebrate the holidays! For years now I have enjoyed the various Sizzix dies that have made crafting a lot easier be it card-making, scrapbooking, gift giving, jewelry making, party planning, plushie making, to planner designs and home decor. I'm especially loving the newest home decor dies by Katelyn Lizardi which stand alone as well as play well together!

In today's tutorial, I'll show you how I used the Sizzix Thinlits Plus Die Set 2PK - Amore, Sizzix Thinlits Plus Die - Floral Swirls and Sizzix Thinlits Plus Die Set 23PK - Love Lives Here Card together to create a painterly holiday decor. Let's start with a complete list of supplies:

To diecut the Floral Swirls panel, create the following Sizzix Sandwich:  on a Sizzix Big Shot Plus Accessory - Platform, Standard, lay another Sizzix Big Shot Plus Accessory - Cutting Pads, Standard. On it, lay out the Sizzix Thinlits Plus Die Set 2PK -Floral swirls panel die blade side up. Place cardstock on it and cover with the other Big Shot Plus Standard Cutting Pad. Pass the whole Sizzix Sandwich through the Sizzix Big Shot Plus machine.

Repeat the exact same Sizzix Sandwich to die-cut the Amore panel and Love Lives Here Card.

Use Gel Medium to evenly layer and seal the Floral Swirls panel on the Love Lives Here Card base. Gently push out any trapped air bubbles for a smooth finish. Seal the panel in place with a top coat of gel medium. When thoroughly dry, cut the slit on the card base that got covered by the panel back open carefully with a craft knife.

Layer the Amore panel on the left arm piece of the card base with gel medium leaving out the tab parts. When thoroughly dry, cut off excess with scissors.

Use the remaining part of the Amore panel to cover the right arm of the card base. Be sure to leave out the tab parts. Let dry and trim off excess.

Paint the card base piece with festive red shades of Gelatos or another paint of your choice. I used red keeping Christmas in mind. You could color these pieces to fit any occasion really. Just rub the Gelatos dry or another paint on the surface and add water to blend and spread the colors.Because you coated the papers with gel medium, you need not worry about your paper tearing. Don't try to blend perfectly or cover evenly. Remember that we are going for a painterly look today.

Color the arms of the card base with greens and yellows. Pull some of that yellow to the base panel as well. Let dry every piece thoroughly.

Now, let's assemble the Love Lives Here Card.

Adhere tabs of each of the arms to the back of the Card base with the flat edges of the arms aligned with the bottom of the Card base.

Fold the arms around to the front of the Card and insert the tab at the end of the short arm into the front of the Card base.

Insert the tab at the end of the long arm into the slit on the short arm.

You can add a piece of chipboard cut to the same size as the card base to lend some extra strength and support to your decor piece. This will also flatten out any buckling of the cardstocks that might have happened in the layering and coloring process. Use gel medium to attach the chipboard to the card base. Use clips to help with the adhesion process.

Once the chipboard is firmly in place, go ahead and decorate the Love Lives Here Card with the remaining die-cut pieces. Notice that I left them white to lend some added contrast to the piece.

Once the whole piece is totally dry, clip on a photo collage and brush letter a sentiment on the piece to finish.

I hope you enjoyed today's tutorial and have fun creating with these lovely new dies. Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
