Hello crafters! It's Aida here and back with a fun artsy Dream Canvas!
Sizzix dies are wonderful for so many projects and with the increasing interest in mixed media, we can now add die-cuts to art type projects as well. Today's project is about background and textures, not a hugely difficult piece and great for those who are just dipping your toes into mixed media.
The Sizzix Frameworks Wave by Tim Holtz is ideal for mixed media with its abstract design.
The die is used the same way as Bigz dies and the sandwich is the easiest to remember. On your Big Shot, starting from the bottom: one Cutting Pad, the Frameworks die facing up, followed by the paper OR Little Sizzles Mat Board, finally the other Cutting Pad. Run this through your Big Shot.
Next I used Dina Wakely's heavy bodied acrylic paints to add color. I LOVE the color Night which is a deep, dark blue and it's mixed with a teeny bit of Umber which is a dark brown that lightens to a taupe-grey. When painting, I use a water spray to keep the canvas surface slightly wet.
Mica powders are colored minerals and when activated with a little water, form a thick and shiny paste. Using my fingers I picked up the paste and rubbed it into the die-cut pieces. Work with the colors till you feel it's how you like them.
Dry completely with a heating tool.
Seed beads are one of the latest products added to the list of mixed media supplies. The easiest way to glue them on any surface is with Ranger's Glossy Accent as the bottle's fine tip nozzle delivers just the right amount of glue you need with a light squeeze. After squeezing the Glossy Accent on the canvas, hold it over a large bowl, and pour the seed beads. The beads that do not stick will simply fall into the bowl saving you the mess. Press the beads gently into the Glossy Accent to make sure it sticks properly to the canvas.
Daub the seed beads with more mica for color and if you like, adjust the color on the whole canvas.
I hope you've enjoyed this Dream Canvas tutorial and will try out this mixed media work. Find out what the other Sizzix Framework designs are and see if you can use them as well ....... happy creating!
