Hello, hello! Anna Wight here, sharing a Sizzix tutorial using the hexagon die from the Life Made Simple Overall Patterns Thinlits Die Set.
Let me show you how I created this card.
First, I chose a nice kraft colored card stock to use for my die cut layer. After I passed the card stock and the hexagon die through my Big Shot, I selected random hexagons to remove from the die cut piece. I handled the die cut layer carefully, so not to pop out too many pieces.
I used the die cut layer as a mask and inked a few hexagons onto the area around my stamped image. Not only did this give my stamped layer visual interest, but also added a bit of ink to the die cut as well, giving it a bit more color.
Here are the inked hexagons around my stamped image, once the die cut mask was removed.
Next, I colored my image with watercolor pencils and an aqua brush.
I adhered the die cut layer to my card base, carefully adding lots of adhesive to ensure the remaining hexagons wouldn't pop off of my project. Once adhered, I snipped off the overhanging portion of the die cut with scissors for a nice, clean card edge.
I decided to dress things up a bit with some splatters of watered down gesso. Using a small brush, I added splatters by tapping my finger onto the loaded brush until I was happy with the effect.
I added a twine bow to the image panel, which I dressed up with an old mother of pearl button from my stash.
I added splotches of gesso to the colored image as well. I love the visual "surprise" of the splatters.
I adhered the colored panel to the front of my card using foam adhesive, for dimension.
This was a super fun and easy card to make. I love how the hexagon background suggests the shape of chicken wire, making it work so well in so many of my country living craft projects!
Thanks for joining me today! I hope you’re inspired to use the Life Made Simple Overall Patterns dies for not only scrapbooking, but card projects as well!
