Hi all! It's Shelly Hickox with you today to share a fun card and technique.
I recently attended the Create and Connect show (formerly CHA) and couldn't help but notice there is a huge chalkboard trend right now - it's everywhere! I thought it would be fun to create the look of it using the Labels with Bonus Textured Impressions die set and black cardstock. I also just got the new Self-Standing Card die from the new Antique Faire line. I didn't initially realize that the two dies went together - when I did, I was thrilled!
Isn't that a fun look? I think you'll be very surprised at how easy it is! Here are the steps if you'd like to try it yourself:
Begin by die cutting a 6" x 12" piece of kraft cardstock using the Self-Standing Card die. Fold along the score lines.
Using the same die, cut decorative paper to cover the panels, as shown.
Cut a piece of smooth black cardstock using the Labels with Bonus Textured Impressions die. Before you emboss it, rub the surface with a piece of white chalk. Smooth the chalk with your finger and emboss with the matching Textured Impressions folder.
Stamp sentiment with white ink (I used Faber Castell's white pen). Rub embossed area with white chalk to highlight.
Punch holes in ends and thread with ribbon. Adhere panel to center of card with foam squares, folding ribbon behind and securing with tape.
Die cut three pennants from decorative paper using Karen Burniston's Flagpole with Lantern & Sign Strip Die. Stamp with a small alpha set and black ink. Fold over a length of paper string, adding adhesive to secure. Attach to card as shown.
Add decorative elements as desired.
I hope you've enjoyed this quick and easy card. Have a great week!
