Hello! It's Karin here today with a Sizzix tutorial on how to embellish a small gift box with three felt camellias.
There were huge camellia bushes at the house where I grew up in Oregon. I loved them because their pink blossoms were always among the first things to come alive in spring. That nostalgia paired with the use of my grandmother's vintage buttons as embellishments make a lovely place to store small treasures or gift to someone with a thoughtful present inside.
Use the Sizzix BigZ die - Camellia and two pieces of felt large enough to cover the surface of the die.
You will be using the six petal shapes. Die cut petals in two additional colors of felt, and then a few leaves in two shades of green felt.
Choose a color for the stamen. Place three small rectangles of felt on top of that part of the die and die cut.
With a pair of fabric scissors, trim the center out of the bottom of the stamen. This will help reduce bulk during flower assembly.
Roll the stamen up. I use a pair of hemostats to help with this process but pinching them with fingers also works. Starting with the smallest petal, put the rolled up stamen through the center hole.
Continue adding petals, making sure to stagger them. To sew a bead or small button on in the center of each flower, push the needle up from the bottom of the stamen through to the front, thread the button onto the needle and push the needle back down through the center of the flower. Sew or hot glue all three flowers and leaves down to a small circle of felt which can then be clipped to the top of the box. Or, skip the ribbon and hot glue the flowers on!
The three colors of felt are pulled together by the same yellow at the center of each camellia.
Mother's Day is coming soon; this will be a lovely way to wrap something special. Thanks so much for stopping by, and happy crafting!
