Hi everyone, it's Audrey, here to share a pair of quick birthday cards with you today featuring the fabulous new Flutter stamps and dies from the Sizzix Tim Holtz collection.
As a card maker, it seems like I am always in need of birthday cards, so I try to build up a stash of ready-made cards to keep on hand. The new Tim Holtz Flutter butterflies are so beautiful and fun to use, and work really well for year-round birthday card designs. Today I've created a bit of a summer-inspired look using light pastel colors in an earthy color palette that work perfectly for the season. And I've paired it with lots of crisp white and bold black to make everything pop. Great thing is, you can easily switch up the colors you see here to create cards with year round appeal, to suit any style or occasion you may need.
Let's take a closer look.
To begin, create a standard A2 card base from white cardstock. Trim a second panel of white cardstock to 4.25" x 4.25".
Stamp a variety of Flutter images in a random pattern over the entire square panel using black waterproof ink. Add a light wash of blue Distress Ink around the outline of each butterfly, and then allow the ink to dry.
Place a medium-sized circle die from the new Tim Holtz Stitched Circle Framelits dies onto the top right corner of the stamped panel and die cut the piece using this standard Sizzix die cutting sandwich for Thinlits and Framelits dies: Magnetic Platform, Standard Cutting Pad, paper, die (cutting side down), Standard Cutting Pad. By the way, check out these cool new glitter cutting pads!
Choose the next size down circle die. Nest the two dies together to create a round frame, and die cut the frame from black cardstock. Remove the inner circle and set it aside for another project.
Insert the die cut frame into the circular die cut opening, and secure on the backside with a bit of tape. Trim off the excess frame from the right side of the panel. Adhere a thin strip of black cardstock to the bottom edge of the butterfly panel, trimming off the excess from the sides. Wrap twine around the bottom of the panel, tying it into a bow on the right side. Adhere a panel of patterned paper to the card base. Place foam adhesive behind the butterfly panel, and then adhere it to the card.
Stamp additional butterflies onto watercolor cardstock using black Archival ink. Watercolor the images with Distress inks. And then die cut the butterflies using the matching Framelits dies. Place foam adhesive onto the back of the butterflies, and attach them to the center of the frames.
Stamp a birthday sentiment onto a strip of black cardstock using clear embossing ink, and then heat set the greeting with white embossing powder. Trim the right end into a v-notch. Adhere the sentiment strip above the twine tie.
