Heart Basket Penny Rug DIY

Hi quilting friends! It’s Kathy from the QSA (Quilting, Sewing, Applique) Team at Sizzix. Does putting away the decorations make you a little sad about the holidays being over? Me too, but I found this little project to lift my spirits and fill a hole that was left by the decorations once they were put away.

The cold evenings and football games are just perfect for hand stitching. The wool friendly dies that Roseann Meehan Kermes from Rosebud's Cottage designs are perfect for getting a project together and ready for stitching quickly and her new Basket with Bow die is just the ticket!

I was quickly able to cut a variety of hearts, (some of which were leftover from another project). And then chose a dark blue to set the red color off. I even added a bit of unexpected green for the bow.

After trimming the lace to fit just right into the spaces I wanted it to be in, I was ready to glue baste it down. And then came the fun part of sewing them down. I always love the therapeutic rhythm of hand stitching.

Once I had all of the pieces stitched down, I cut another Penny Rug Mat to match the top one and stitched them down using a Blanket stitch to hide all of the thread on the back.

Now off to find it a new home to show it off properly.

Beautiful. Thank you for the emails. I did not know that you had this type of program other than just paper crafting. What fun and a beautiful hanging!
