Hi everyone, Mou here with today's inspiration!
Over the years I have given and received many pop up cards but haven't really tried making one myself. I was a bit afraid of not getting the pop-up mechanism right until I tried Karen Burniston's Pop 'n Cuts system. So, using Karen's Pop 'n Cuts Magnetic Insert Die - House, 3-D (Pop-Up) and Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 8PK - House, I made my first pop up card.
These are the supplies I used:
Others: White cardstock, black pen, Distress Ink pads (Evergreen Bough and Barn Door) and ink blending tool by Ranger, gold acrylic paint, paint brush, adhesive
If this is your first pop-up card too, then I suggest that you watch Karen's videos (Pop ‘n Cuts - An Introduction, Pop ‘n Cuts - Using with Movers & Shapers Magnetic Dies, and Pop ‘n Cuts - Using with the Base Tray). I found them to be immensely helpful.
Once you have die cut the base card, the pop up house, and the elements of the house out, you can follow these steps to make a card like mine.
Attach the die cut pop up house inside the base card with adhesive. Make sure all the edges and folds line up correctly.
Using an ink blending tool, color the front and inside of the card with Evergreen Bough distress ink pad. You don't need to color the pop up house on the card because it will get covered up by the Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 8PK - House.
Using the same technique, color the elements of the Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 8PK - House. Use the Barn Door ink pad for the roof, window boxes, and the heart. Assemble the pieces of the house on the popped up backing of the house in the card.
Flick water with paint brush on the inked surfaces for the Distress Inks to react. Once dry, flick some gold acrylic paint as well. Let dry.
Die cut two 2 7/8" x 2 7/8" Sassy Labels & Stitched Frames out of cardstock. Attach one near the bottom right of the card front going off the edge. Trim off excess paper. Attach the other one inside behind the house.
Handwrite your sentiments to finish the card.
Hope you enjoyed today's card and would give Pop 'n Cuts a try in your own cardmaking this year.
