How To DIY This Fourth of July!

Hi everyone, it's Alexis from the Art Room. This week we celebrate the Fourth of July! It's a day to commemorate our Independence with a plethora of fireworks, parades and barbecue pot lucks! I don't know about you, but summer holidays are some of my favorite reasons to have an excuse to decorate! If you find yourself in need of some last minute decor or activities to keep the kids busy, look no further! Let's check out some quick and simple DIY ideas for the big day!

Home Decor

Kick off your star-spangled day with a little home decor to greet your guests. Set the tone as your guests arrive with some of your very own DIY door wreaths! Gather a bit of acrylic paint, some clothespins, and die-cut stars to make a customized patriotic clothespin wreath. Another great option is a star wreath, especially if you decide to punch them up by adding a few 3-D stars into the mix! Once your guests are inside, warm the mood up by wrapping candles in burlap and decorating them with red, white and blue rosettes along mantles or side tables. Finally, prepare a festive barbecue feast at your dining room table with flagged-filled vases and coordinating dishes.

Party Decor

You can further brighten up the party scene with handmade rosette fans, balloon decor or party banners. Fans die-cut from themed patterned paper or color-coordinated cardstock are quick and easy ways to add splashes of color throughout a party! Try your hand at making smaller matching rosettes to place in glass vases with sand or small stones along the length of a table. You can find some of our rosette fan options here and here. Customized banners utilizing shapes or sentiments are a fun way to round out the look and feel for any holiday. For the Fourth of July, try using stars, decorative ribbons, and solid-colored fabrics to paint any space red, white and blue!

Upcycling

The Fourth is typically a day for outdoor activities, whether it's at the beach, lake or grandma's backyard. What better way to celebrate with family and friends than with your own DIY games?! Upcycle wine bottles and old bottle crates with paint to make your own ring toss or wrap stars & stripes patterned papers around food cans for a round of tin can toss.

Kids Crafts

And what about those pint-sized guests of yours? Decorating bikes for parades is a great pastime for any kid out there! Give them a handful of ribbons, balloons, streamers, and rosettes and watch the creativity fly sky high! Maybe you're looking for some sit-down craft time to keep the kiddos occupied? With a few ribbons, some die-cut stars and a long dowel they can create their own patriotic wands. Or create some flowy kids blowers with streamers, toilet rolls, and paint! Kids love to be active and creative, and the Fourth of July is the perfect day for them to get the best of both worlds.

Fashion Accessories

Finally, add a splash of sparkle to your accessories! Handmake a few pom poms to hang from your beach bags or purses with our pom-pom maker, decorate headbands with glittered stars or fabric rosette flowers or even try your hand at creating your own red, white and blue flower crown out of felt or crepe paper. With a few festive fashion accessories, the party will surely not be the only thing shining!

I hope you found some of these ideas to be helpful or inspiring! I wish everyone a fun, festive and safe Fourth of July! Enjoy your time celebrating with family and friends. I would love to hear about your Fourth of July traditions, plans or craft ideas in the comments below. Until next week!
