Hi everyone, it’s Jess from Everyday Party Magazine. Today I am sharing a SIMPLE Memorial Day and or 4th of July Banner!
Aside from the Sizzix Big Shot and the standard cutting pads, you will need the Extended Cutting Pads, the Bigz XL Alphabet Die - Typo Upper, the Bigz L Die - Banner, the Bigz Die - Star #3, felt, jute or twine, hot glue gun and glue, and fabric glue (optional).
Begin by making your banner. I repurposed mine from an earlier project, but I made it with the Bigz XL Die - Banner, Big. I cut it using the Sizzix Sandwich method, cutting pad, die, felt, cutting pad, and rolled it through the Big Shot Machine. I cut several dozen for my earlier project, and made a pocket in the top by folding it down about 1/2” and hot gluing it in place. Once the glue was cool, I threaded the jute through the pocket. For this banner, I only needed 5 pennant banners, so I removed 5 from a larger group, and rethreaded them. You can see how I folded the pocket in the photo.
Next, I cut out my stars and letter suing the same Sizzix Sandwich method. For the single letter “S”, I used a scrap of felt over the letter and used my standard cutting pads. For the “U” and “A” I used my extended cutting pads, and cut the full alphabet.
Now, I was ready to embellish my banner! I used an all purpose fabric glue to attach the letters to the stars. The letters are thin, and I didn’t want to burn myself with hot glue. Since I already had the fabric glue out, I used it to attach the stars to the banners too. Once all the glue was fully dry, I was ready to hang my new Patriotic Banner!
I hope I have inspired you to repurpose an old project you already have or even make something totally new!
