Hey everyone, it's Hilary here today with a Patriotic Stars Card in a Box for the 4th of July. I love creating patriotic things, there's something about red, white & blue that gets me excited to celebrate this wonderful country we live in. I hope you enjoy!
I chose to use the Card in a Box, A2 Flower Basket Sizzix Bigz XL Die by Lori Whitlock, for my project, but chose to substitute the "flowers" with "stars" using the Stacked Stars Bigz Die by Tim Holtz, to really turn this into one fun, patriotic card. I also used one of my favorite dies, Mini Paper Rosettes Sizzix Decorative Strip Die, also by Tim Holtz, to add in extra elements. I so love how this turned out, and it was so easily created. Below I'll show you how I did it.
To make your project sparkle more, I cut some of the stars using glitter cardstock.
....and adhered a vintage die cut to the front from the card.
To finish, I adhered a twill America sticker along with an American flag sticker.
To begin gather your dies, paper and supplies and lets get creating.
First begin by die cutting your card base. Your cutting sandwich is as follows: Extended Cutting Pad, Card in a Box die, (with cutting blades up), followed by your pattern paper, and a Premium Extended Crease Pad. Die cut all your pieces.
To assemble, fold on the scored lines and adhere the ends of the box together.
Adhere your contrasting papers to the front of the box, and fold the tops down.
Using the middle sections and handles, fold on the scored lines and adhere to the inside of the card using a dab of hot glue. These are the sections at which you will adhere your stars and rosettes.
Layer them together, creating fun color schemes and adhere them to each other using a dab of hot glue in the middle.
To die cut your rosettes using the Mini Paper Rosettes Sizzix Decorative Strip die, you need Multipurpose Platform on tab 1. Lay that down on your Big Shot, followed by an Extended Cutting Pad, followed by the Mini Paper Rosettes die, (cutting side up), your pattern paper and finally another Cutting Pad on top.
Assemble the rosettes using hot glue to adhere the ends, then a dab in the middle of a circle, press rosette down into the glue and hold for a couple of seconds.
I turned my rosettes into picks using a small wooden stick, this allows you to add some height to your card.
Then add glittered stars to the front.
Once you have all your stars assembled, rosette picks created begin by adhering them to the sections of the card using hot glue, in any design you want. Just have fun with it. And that's it! This Patriotic Stars Card in a Box will lay flat, but it also makes a fun, sweet decor piece too. I hope I've inspired you to create your one of your own.
