Hi everyone, it's Audrey, and today I have a tutorial to share with you for creating gratitude place setting pockets using new dies and embossing folders from Brenda Walton's Favorite Things collection.
These fun pockets would be a perfect addition for your holiday Thanksgiving table this year. The pocket design is so easy to put together, thanks to the help of this fabulous new Library Pocket XL Bigz die by Brenda Walton. And the nice large size is great for decorating, and gives plenty of room on the insert for adding journaling cards and handwritten notes. I think these would be fun for guests to journal about what they are most thankful for this year on the bottom of the insert, and then tuck them away in the pocket for safekeeping.
I dressed the front of my pocket up with lots of pretty trims, and a pair of Millinery Leaves from another of Brenda's fabulous new dies. The embossed dots and Distress ink color palette add an extra burst of cheer. And I really love that bit of rustic Kraft thrown in. Such a perfect fall look.
Let's take a closer look.
To begin, die cut the pocket from the Library Pocket XL Bigz die from manila cardstock. For this die, which needs to fold along the crease lines, it's recommended to use an Extended Crease Pad, and this Sizzix die cutting sandwich: Extended Cutting Pad, Bigz XL die (cutting side up), paper, Extended Crease Pad.
Insert the front portion of the pocket into the Party Time Dots Textured Impressions embossing folder and run it through your die cutting machine using this Sizzix sandwich for embossing: Multipurpose Platform open to Tab 1, Standard Cutting Pad, Embossing Folder with paper inside, Standard Cutting pad.
You can see that I lined up the bottom of the front of the pocket with the bottom of the embossing folder for a clean embossed finish. It's very easy to line up the score line with the bottom of the folder. Ink the raised dot area with Wilted Violet Distress Ink using the ink blending tool.
Spritz the inked area with a Distress Sprayer to create both large and small water droplets, and then allow the paper to dry completely. Assemble the pocket with strong red-line adhesive or tacky glue. Die cut the insert from the Library Pocket XL Bigz die from kraft cardstock.
Add a journaling card to the top of the kraft insert. Wrap wide grosgrain ribbon around the pocket and secure with a bit of strong tape or glue. Then tie a big bow on the left side using a variety of your favorite trims.
For the leaves, dab Distress Ink onto a non-stick craft sheet and spray the inks liberally with water. Press a quarter sheet of manila cardstock into the ink mixture, and then allow the paper to dry completely.
Die cut a pair of leaves from the inked paper using the new Millinery Leaves Bigz die. When die cutting with Bigz dies, use this standard Sizzix die cutting sandwich: Standard Cutting Pad, Bigz die (cutting side up), paper, Standard Cutting Pad. Once the leaves are die cut, emboss them with the matching Millinery Leaves Textured Impressions embossing folder. You can see here how easy it is to line up the leaves inside the folder.
Ink the raised embossed area with Distress Ink using the mini ink blending tool.
Lightly bend the leaves upwards along the center vein. Add a dot of tacky glue to the base of the leaves, and adhere them to a branch from your yard. Love adding in a realistic natural touch like that. You could also substitute wrapped florists wire or wooden skewers for this step. Once the glue has dried, tuck the leaves under the bow.
Die cut the tag from the Library Pocket XL Bigz die from Kraft cardstock and stamp a sentiment onto the tag. Thread the tag with twine and then tuck the string under the bow.
