Hi friends, it's Cathie and I'm back again on The Making Journal with a fun Christmas wreath making project. 

Christmas wreaths are a sure way of brightening up your door way. They also make incredible Christmas Gifts. I love a Poinsettia Wreath and I wanted to do something a little untraditional when it came to the colors so I hope you like it. 

To create this wreath I used two of the new Tim Holtz Bigz dies, Festivities and Pinecone. I'll show you how easy it is to put together. Enjoy!

Distress Ink - Spun Sugar, Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain and Gathered Twigs

Distress Archival Ink - Black Soot

Creating the Pinecones

  • Spray mixed media heavy cardstock with Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain and Gathered Twigs Distress Ink. Spray each color separately and dry in between each color before moving on to the next. Completely dry.
  • Add accent splatters onto each pinecone using the splatter stamp from the Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous The Poinsettia stamp set in Distress Archival Black Soot ink.
  • Curl each pinecone around the end of a paintbrush so it curves around the branches when you apply them to the wreath. This will give them a more realistic look.

Creating the Poinsettias

  • Cut three poinsettia petals out of light pink felt and three out of medium pink felt.
  • Adhere one light pink petal and one medium pink petal together making sure to offset the petals.
  • Complete this until you have there poinsettias.
  • Adhere three Idea-ology Metallic Droplets to the center of each poinsettias.

Creating the Leaves

  • Cut three of each of the leaf designs from the Festivities die out of light green felt and three out of medium green felt.
  • Ink the edges of the petals with Vintage Photo Distress Archival Ink.

Putting It All Together

  • Choose your wreath. It can be any kind you wish.
  • Adhere the Pinecones to your wreath.
  • Next, adhere the leaves over the pinecones.


To finish the wreath, adhere the poinsettias in the open spaces between each pinecone and add a shabby seam binding bow and you're done. Easy, right?
