Hi everyone, it's Jan here today sharing a layout tutorial featuring Echo Park's new Valentine dies. I find myself using heart dies quite often; in cards, mixed media, craft projects and layouts. It doesn't have to be Valentine's Day to incorporate hearts into your project.
This Sizzix Bigz die, Heart Viewfinder has little heart cutouts, so the small hearts can also be used. Your Sizzix Sandwich for die-cutting in a Big Shot is, a Standard Cutting Pad, Bigz die, paper, and Standard Cutting Pad. This die also includes a small heart tag that opens.
This heart tag has two small hearts joined together by a crease line. I folded my paper in half and placed it just inside the outer edge of one heart so that I ended up with four hearts joined together to make a border die-cut.
I love this Layered Valentine Bigz Die! How many times have you die-cut a heart out and wanted a scalloped edge to accent the heart? This would make a great banner too
I also die-cut various pieces from this Echo Park Love Labels Bigz die from my patterned paper and cardstock. Now I'm ready to assemble my layout.
I used Echo Park's new Valentine paper collection, "Blowing Kisses" for my papers. This is how I assembled my base. I matted the center section with three different pieces of solid coloured paper.
I added a black doily in the top corner behind my paper. I was going to put small photos in the heart cut-outs but I didn't have anything I could use. I traced my viewfinder shape onto patterned paper, cut it out and adhered behind my viewfinder. My doily and viewfinder were trimmed as I had adhered them past the paper edge. The heart and scalloped heart were also adhered past the edge and trimmed on the left. I added in the die-cut black label which had a piece of ephemera adhered behind it. I added in other ephemera pieces from my paper collection.
With my banner die-cut pieces and the "Love" ephemera pieces, I assembled this banner. I stapled two pieces of cord to the top. I used a black marker around the edges so they stood out more. This is adhered across my page at the bottom of the polka dot paper.
I adhered another label die-cut from the Love Labels Bigz Die to a piece of patterned paper with a journaling notecard. Instead of applying adhesive all around my photo mat, I left one side open and this creates a pocket for the journaling card.
The other layered heart and scalloped heart is adhered at the corner of my photo. The heart border is adhered beside it. I used some fine red wire, coiled it, and strung this through the holes in the hearts. The round label has a ephemera doily piece, which fit perfect on top, for my words. I added in some small flowers die-cut from Sizzix Tim Holtz Tiny Tattered Florals Thinlits die. The Sizzix Sandwich for die-cutting these is Standard Magnetic Platform, Standard Cutting Pad, Paper, Thinlits die, Standard Cutting Pad. To finish off my layout, I added in some of the tiny hearts from my heart viewfinder, my arrow die-cut, and ephemera pieces from my paper collection.
Here's another look at my layout. This cute couple is my youngest son and his girlfriend.(I call her my future daughter-in-law!) You can see in the layout, how the journaling card slides out. There are more wonderful dies in this Echo Park Collection, that can be used on any project, not just Valentine themed ones.
Hope you enjoyed my tutorial and hopefully it has inspired you to create! Thanks for stopping by,
