The Sizzix Challenge Halloween | Halloween Medallion by Laura Russell

Hi there!  It's Laura from Make Life Lovely, and I am thrilled to be sharing a fun Halloween medallion with you today as part of the Sizzix Challenge Halloween.

Halloween is such a fun time of the year, isn't it?  I just bought some big pumpkins, and wanted to come up with an easy, but creative way to decorate them.  So of course I turned to my Big Shot and Sizzix dies and got started creating!

I decided to make a medallion that I could hang from the pumpkin's stem with ribbon, so I pulled out my Brenda Walton 3-D Snowflake Medallions die, which is not just limited to use in winter!

I die cut five of the large medallion pieces by making a Sizzix sandwich with a cutting pad, the die face up, black card stock face down, and a Crease Pad on top.  Then I rolled them through my Big Shot.

I wanted the medallion to have some added texture, so I used one of the Tim Holtz Night & Poison embossing folders on each medallion piece before I folded them.  To use a Sizzix embossing folder in a Big Shot all you'd need to do is open your Multipurpose Platform to tab 2. You'll then want to lay down one cutting pad, place your closed embossing folder that has the paper inside it down and put a second cutting pad on top of it all. After I rolled each piece through my Big Shot, I folded each medallion piece like an accordion along the folds, and then adhered them together.

I used a cut circle to glue onto the back of the medallion to hold it in place.  For the spider web I used a die cut from DCWV, glued it onto a piece of silver glitter card stock, and then cut around the edges of the web.  I glued the web onto the medallion.

Next I cut out my Gothic Boo Bigz die cut from black velvet paper, and adhered that to the center of the web.

I measured how low I wanted my medallion to hang on my pumpkin, and then cut and glued the ribbon onto the back of the medallion.

Then I simply hung the finished medallion from the pumpkin.

I really love how it turned out!  If you look closely at the embossed medallion, you can see light subtle skulls from the embossing folder here and there.  Love that!

I'm thinking about making a whole set of them with different dies in the middle, one per pumpkin.  Wouldn't this look great with a whole collection of pumpkins in all different colors and sizes?

These would also make great decorations to hang from a mirror or on a mantle, on a doorknob, or even to string a few of them into a gorgeous garland.  So many possibilities!

I hope I've inspired you to get crafting for Halloween with your Sizzix dies.

Happy crafting!!

XO, Laura
