Sizzix Inspiration | Floral Birthday Box by Jan Hobbins

Hi everyone, Jan here today.  When I saw this new Eileen Hull Cookie Box Sizzix Scoreboard XL die, I thought it would be so nice to gift my favourite cookie, Macarons in.  Well, after indulging on too many sweets this Christmas, I really don't want to think about cookies.  So, instead I turned this little box into a 3-d Birthday card.  I like using Sizzix's white mat board called, Little Sizzles.  It's really light weight, has the same thickness as chipboard, and scores nicely.  I first glued my patterned paper to the mat board, and then die-cut my box, using my Big Shot, one Extended Cutting Pad, and one Extended Crease Pad.  Because this die has score lines, it is recommended to use one crease pad in place of a cutting pad.  Next assemble your cookie box, following the enclosed directions, or the pdf directions on the Sizzix website.

To decorate my birthday box, I used an assortment of paper die-cuts from the paper collection I used (Kaisercraft's Cherry Blossom) and flowers I made using Tattered Pinecone Sizzix Bigz die, and Sizzix's Susan's Garden Hydrangea Thinlits set. I like using the small petals from my Susan's garden dies if I want really small flowers. I adhered these to the top of the box, and inked the edges.

Next I die-cut eight white cardstock scallop circles  from the Sizzix Circle Scallop Framelits set.  I adhered a 1/4" wide ribbon down the center of four circles, leaving about 1/2" between, leaving about 3" on the ends for extra.  I decorated 3 of the other circles.  The top one I die-cut a smaller scallop circle, adhered it to the larger circle and then made a slit for my looped ribbon to go through.  The end of the ribbon is on the inside. I added a small bow in front of the loop.  The birthday was die-cut using Gift Box Embellishments Sizzix Thinlits set by Lori Whitlock.  This is a negative space die-cut, so I adhered a piece of coloured paper underneath the circle.  I left the last circle blank so I could write my message.  Adhere the decorated circles on top of the bottom circles.

The circles accordion fold nicely into the box and all the recipient has to do, is pull up the loop.  I just did four circles, but you could add a few more.  An added gift could be circular photos adhered to the circles.

Hope my Birthday Box has inspired you to think "outside" the box or should I say "inside" the box!

Thanks for stopping by,

Jan
