Hi there! It's Laura from Make Life Lovely here with some Sizzix inspiration. With Valentine's Day coming up, I was inspired to make a cute heart box for the occasion!
I used Brenda Walton's new Heart Pocket Sizzix Bigz XL die to create my heart box. The die set is actually made to create a cute hanging heart with a pocket, but sometimes I like to take dies and use them for other purposes than what they were intended for. That way you get more uses out of them!
First, I die cut two of the large hearts from the heart pocket die. Next I cut two 12" long strips that were about 1" wide.
I used my glue gun to place a thin line of hot glue about an inch inside on one side of one of my paper hearts. I immediately placed one of my cut paper strips on top of the glue, and held it in place for about 10 seconds while the glue cooled and hardened. I cut off the excess paper at the point of the heart. Then I repeated the same procedure for the other half of the heart. This gave me the bottom half of my heart box.
Next, I cut another strip of paper, and glued it down on the backside bottom of my patterned heart, just a bit farther inward than the last heart. This helped my heart "lid" to stay where it was supposed to on the bottom half of my box. I placed on the lid, and had the cutest heart box ever!
To add some fun and a little sparkle to the top of the box, I used my favorite gold glitter paper, die cut an XO from the Stacked Words Valentines Sizzix Sizzlits Decorative Strip die, then glued the letters to the front of the box. Decorative Strip dies are long, so they require the use of the Decorative Strip Cutting Pads as well as your Extended Multipurpose Platform. You would open your Extended Multipurpose Platform to Tab 1, place one Decorative Strip Cutting Pad down, then your die face up, your material face down and then the second cutting pad. Then just roll it through!
You could put chocolate, candy, a love note, or whatever else you'd like to put inside the box to make the perfect Valentine's Day gift for that special someone! You could also use mat board with pattern paper to create an even sturdier, more durable box. The sky is the limit!
