This project is perfect for the warmer months to help absorb the moisture from your iced drinks.

Using your Sizzix Bigz Die - 5" Half-Hexagon along with your Sizzix fabi machine, two fat quarters of fabric and some batting you can create a set of 6 coasters!

Begin by cutting your two fat quarters into 3" x 6" rectangles. You will have 12 of each fabric - feel free to make this a fun scrappy project by raiding your scrap bin.

Make a Sizzix sandwich by layering a standard cutting pad - Sizzix Bigz Die, 5" Half Hex die side up - fabric (up to 8 layers) - standard cutting pad - and roll through your Sizzix fabi machine.

At your sewing machine, using a 1/4" seam allowance, take two of your half-hexagon shapes - right sides facing together - and sew along the flat side.

Press open your seams, continue with the remaining hexagon shapes by combining two different fabrics or keep them the same on both sides for a solid look.

You will now have a total of 12 hexagon pieces.

Take a piece of cotton quilt batting, scraps left over from other projects work so well for this, and cut around the hexagon. You will need a total of 6 hexagon batting pieces.

Make a fabric stack: batting - and two half-hexagons right sides facing on top. Pin in place.

Sew around the perimeter of your hexagon using a 1/4" seam allowance. Make sure to leave a small opening, roughly the size of a hexagon side to turn your project right side out. I like to make sure to start and stop a little in on the open side to make sure that when turning right side out I will not lose my sharp corners.

Turn your hexagon right side out and poke out corners. Fold in open edges and press with a hot iron to make sewing the opening closed a little easier. Also, pin closed if it is helpful while sewing.

Sew around the perimeter just inside the outside edges for a nice finish and to sew the open area closed. You are finished!
