Hi Sizzix friends, Nicole from Modern Handcraft here with a fun and easy Sizzix Tutorial project using the Hearts #4 Sizzix Bigz die by Stephanie Ackerman from Homegrown & Handmade. I love decorating for Valentines day and the three hearts in this die are perfectly imperfect and fit together just like a fun little puzzle. I could see these on a table runner or even a throw quilt, I might even add a heart or two to a little zipper pouch.
Iron Heat n Bond onto the backing of the fabric for your hearts, cut into 5" wide strips for die cutting in your machine. Make a Sizzix sandwich by taking a Cutting Pad, die facing up, fabric and Cutting Pad to your Sizzix fabi machine. Roll through your fabi machine until you have the desired amount of hearts.
Cut your pillow cover pieces, front piece: 20" x 20", envelope backing pieces 13" x 20", binding pieces 2 - 2.5" x 20"
The Heart #4 die cuts three different sizes at a time and I find using a few different fabrics to be quite beautiful on your project.
Peel the paper backing from the Heat n Bond on your hearts and place in a puzzle pattern on your 20" fabric piece. When you have your design set, use your iron to set the hearts in place. I recommend leaving an inch or so around the perimeter free of hearts.
Baste your pillow top to a piece of batting using a basting spray or skip that step using a fusible fleece. Stitch around each heart shape using a tight zig zag stitch in a coordinating thread. I used red and a hot pink color for my pillow.
Trim up your pillow top, you are now ready for your pillow backing.
For this pillow I chose to do an envelope back enclosure so I could show off this fun heart binding along the edges. Take two pieces of backing fabric measuring 13" x 20" and add binding material to one 20" side of each piece. Bind in place like you would binding a quilt.
Take your pillow top facing up and lay each backing piece facing down on top of your pillow top. Make sure that the sides that have binding on them are facing the middle. Pin around the edges and sew using a 1/4" seam allowance.
Turn right side out and you are finished! This pillow's final size is 19" square and works perfectly with a 20" pillow form.
Hope you all enjoy this project and please share with us your finished projects!
