Sizzix Tutorial | Sea Glass Table Runner by Karin Jordan

Hello! It's Karin here with a Sizzix Tutorial on how to make a 16 1/4 x 31 3/4" table runner that uses the Sizzix Bigz Pro Die Crazy Quilt, 8" Assembled Square.sea glass table runner designed by Karin Jordan of Leigh Laurel Studios for Sizzix

I selected eight shades of blue, green and aqua as there are eight sections to each square in the die. For fabric I chose Pure Elements Solids by Art Gallery Fabrics. You will need less than a fat quarter of each color, just enough to cover the blades in the die — a 10" square of each is perfect. I'd planned on incorporating the sand color, above, but wound up changing the plan a bit after I took the fabric photo.

After ironing and starching the fabric, I die cut all eight squares with the Crazy Quilt die at once with my Big Shot Pro. The Sizzix Sandwich in this photo includes an Extended Sliding Tray, an Extended Adapter Pad, the Crazy Quilt die (cutting side up), my fabric and an Extended Cutting Pad. Note: The Crazy Quilt die only requires a Standard set and not the Extended, as shown.

There are eight sections that are die cut in one square, so you will be making eight squares with one of each color included.

When you sew the sections together, be sure to offset the seams first. Use 1/4" seams throughout.

I created these three sections and then completed the block.

When all eight blocks are sewn together, arrange them in two rows of four, as shown above. I chose to create an on point double square pattern, but there are other layouts possible. Play until you're happy!

You will need 120" of 2 1/4" binding for this table runner and 1/2 yard of fabric for the backing. I used Art Gallery Fabrics new Indelible line called Threaded Shreds in Mamey for the backing and Andover's Mineral Forest called Malachite in Azure for the binding.

I like the effect of the straight line quilting with the shattered look of the pattern. It's quilted with Aurifil 50 wt cotton in Dove (#2600).

I'm hoping to have this on our dining room table as summer turns into fall, so we can recall happy thoughts of beaches and pools. When I'm finally ready for the leaves to start turning, I can flip the table runner over and use the orange side; it's reversible!

Thanks for visiting,
