This DIY Lip Balm Holder Is The Perfect Gift Idea To Make Your Loved One Smile!

IMG_2450Hi all! Tami Mayberry from Create it Simply here with you today to introduce you to one of the fun new die sets from Sizzix and Lori Whitlock --the Thinlits Lip Balm Holder.  I created a simple design that can easily be mass produced to share today but, as you will see, the possibilities with this set are endless.

661924The official Sizzix design for this die set is shown above. When I first saw this photo I imagined a variety of occasions in which it could be used such as favors for school and birthday parties. No only that, I began to consider what else it could hold--things such as mini candy bars, mints, lifesavers and push pops! Then you have the embellishments such as that cute little owl, which is perfect for cards, scrapbooks and home decor. So, I decided I had to try it. Today I am showing you the simple "base" project. This one can be made in minutes and mass produced. Once you get this basic design down the possibility for embellishments and fillers seem endless!

Begin by die-cutting the lip balm holder insert (yellow) and outer cover (pattern).  Note that by using 6x6 patterned paper and the  Extended Magnetic Platform both pieces can be cut in one pass. The Sizzix sandwich for these dies is Extended Magnetic Platform, a Extended Cutting Pad,  cardstock, desired die (cutting side down), and, finally, the second Extended Cutting Pad.

Next die-cut the "smile" sentiment (yellow) and background block (brown).

Next, you will assemble the lip balm holder. To do this you will want to adhere the liner inside the cover. When adding the adhesive be sure to avoid the center slots provided to hold the lip balm as seen above.

Attach the liner to the inside of the cover.

Fold the holder along the score lines a pop out the areas to hold the lip balm in place.

Insert the lip balm and tie the holder shut.

Layer the sentiment pieces together as shown, attach to outside of holder and there you have it! Keep in mind for items other than lip balm you can simply die-cut the outer wrapper and omit the liner.
