Hey, y'all! Bethany here from Pitter & Glink today to share a fun Sizzix project that's pretty and useful. I recently got my hands on a few of the awesome new dies from the Stitchlits Collection by Eileen Hull, and I knew I'd have so much fun coming up with a project to share with y'all. I decided to create a travel earring holder. Many people travel around the holidays, and it's so nice to have a place to keep earrings from getting lost in the bottom of the suitcase. Pop some earrings inside of this pretty creation and you have a great gift too.
To create this travel earring holder, I used my Sizzix BIGkick, the Sizzix Needle Book Scoreboard die, the Buttons, Border & Trim Bigz die, and the Flowers & Leaf Stitchlits Thinlits die set. You can find a full supply list at the bottom of the post.
To create the cover for the travel earring holder, use your BIGkick to cut a piece of Little Sizzles mat board. Place the mat board on top of the Needle Book Scoreboard die, sandwich that between two Standard Size Cutting Pads, and roll that Sizzix sandwich through your BIGkick.
Repeat the above process with a piece of scrapbook paper to jazz up the plain white mat board. You can even repeat the process one more time to cut a piece of scrapbook paper to cover the inside of the mat board as well.
Recreate the Sizzix sandwich, replacing the Needle Book Scoreboard die with the Buttons, Border & Trim Bigz die, and use the die to cut scrapbook paper that coordinates with the paper you plan to use on your cover.
The last pieces to cut before assembling the earring holder are the paper flower embellishments. To do so, place the Flower & Leaf Stitchlits Thinlits dies on top of a Standard Size Cutting Pad. Place scrapbook paper over that and top with another Standard Size Cutting Pad. Place that Sizzix sandwich on top of the Extended Multipurpose Platform and roll through your Sizzix BIGkick. Repeat the process with coordinating scrapbook paper and even old book pages to make pieces that can be layered.
It's always helpful to use the Sizzix Die Pick to remove the paper from your Thinlits.
Then it's time to assemble your travel earring holder. Use double sided adhesive to adhere the scrapbook paper to the inside and outside of the mat board cover. (Be careful with this step to make sure that your cover will still open and close when covered with the scrapbook paper.) Use a glue stick to glue the trim and flowers to the cover of the earring holder. At this point, you can add the inside "pages" to your earring holder. I cut felt to size and hot glued it to the center fold of the cover to create felt "pages." You could simply add paper to create a fun little notebook or mini scrapbook album.
You can further embellish your earring holder with rhinestones and twine to add a bit of dimension and sparkle.
Earring hooks and posts will slide through the felt pages inside the earring holder to keep your earrings secure when traveling. (Please note that "dangly" earrings fit in the earring holder best because some earrings with posts will keep the holder from closing properly as they are too long.)
Thanks for hanging out with me today for this Sizzix tutorial!
