Watercolor Gift Card: A Fun and Simple DIY

Watercolor Gift Card: A Fun and Simple DIY

Hey friends!  Adrianne here with you today to share a fun and personal gift card that's perfect for a sweet note or a small gift.  I often make jewelry gifts, and this is a great way to cover both your card and your gift wrap all at the same time!

The Sizzix Bigz XL gift card holder die is great for small gifts, cards, and of course - actual gift cards.  But instead of layering on some pretty die-cuts, I put some of the clear stamps to work instead!  I used the new "You're My Favorite" stamps and Alphabet stamps to add a soft touch to this sweet little gift pouch.

I'm really excited about all the new stamps coming soon, now that I've started using them with a bit of waterproof ink and watercolor markers!  No matter what you're die cutting - cards, gift wrap, you name it - you can add a lot of personality to projects with some of the new stamps.

Begin by die-cutting your base - in this case, a gift card pouch and card to slip inside.  Bigz dies simply need to be placed between two acrylic cutting pads to create your Sizzix sandwich and then rolled through your Big Shot to die cut the gift pouch pieces.  I'm using 65# card stock, but the Bigz dies can handle just about any material.

Next, mount your clear stamp(s) on a stamp block, and use a waterproof ink to stamp it.  You can use the watercolor markers in two ways.  First, you can color directly on the paper and soften and blend it with a small brush dipped in water.  You can also use your clear stamp block as a blending base, and color onto the acrylic with the marker.  You can dilute and blend colors more easily this way, and it's the method I prefer personally.

When your card and pouch are dry, just use a bit of glue to close the pouch, and slip the personalized note inside.  I know it doesn't look very personal yet, but I actually made this card for a friend to give as a gift - so I hated to complete it for someone else.  With the alphabet clear stamps, you can easily stamp names and messages onto the card, if you like.

Finally, you can add a gift card or a small gift to finish up your gift.  As I mentioned, this is a really great size for jewelry.
