Piecing the Quilt:
- Center a Monkey Head on top of a 6 1/2" cream Square. Heat fuse in place using an iron and stitch around the shapes as desired. Repeat to form five more Monkey Head blocks.
- Center Numbers 1-3 on top of a 6 1/2" cream Square, arranging in a playful manner. Heat fuse in place using an iron and stitch around the shapes as desired. Repeat to form five more Numbers blocks.
- With pencil, draw a diagonal line across the wrong side of each of the 2 1/2" Squares.
- Using the quilt image as a guide, place a different color 2 1/2" Square in each corner of the Monkey Head block. Make sure the Squares and Monkey Head fabrics are right sides together and the diagonal lines do not intersect with the Monkey Head block's corner. Sew along the diagonal line. Press the Square back on itself to form a Half-Square Triangle. Trim the extra fabric from the inside of the Triangle to reduce the bulk. This is known as a snowball block.
- Repeat step 4 with all Monkey Head and Numbers blocks.
- Using the quilt image as a guide, arrange the 6" cream print, Monkey Head and Numbers blocks, 5 across by 5 down. Sew the blocks together to form rows. Sew the rows together to form the quilt top.
- Measure from the top to the bottom of quilt top. This is the side length of the borders. Cut the 1 1/2" blue border Strips to this length and sew in place.
- Measure from the outside edges of the quilt top. This is the top and bottom length of the borders. Cut the 1 1/2" blue border Strips to this length and sew in place.
- Repeat steps 8 and 9 until all borders are sewn in place.
Finishing:
- Layer the backing, batting and quilt top. Quilt by hand or machine, as desired.
- Sew binding strips together to form one long strip. Fold wrong sides together, lengthwise, and press.
- With a 1/4" seam, sew the raw edges of the binding to the edges of the right side of the quilt. Turn the folded edge of the binding to the back side of the quilt and stitch in place by hand, mitering the corners.
