Piecing the Quilt:
- Piece one block at a time. See diagram for each block.
- Using the quilt image as a guide, lay out the blocks three across by four down, leaving room between blocks for sashing.
- Cut thirty-one 2 1/2" Strips into 12 1/2" lengths for sashing strips. Sew a sashing strip on the left side of each block and on the right side of the last block in each row. Sew three blocks together to form a horizontal row. Repeat to make three more rows.
- Alternate sewing four 2 1/2" red Squares and three 2 1/2" x 12 1/2" blue Strips to form the sashing row. Make five rows.
- Sew horizontal rows together, starting at the top with the cornerstone and sashing row, and alternating with a sashing and pieced block row to form the finished quilt top.
- Measure from the left side to the right side of the quilt top. Use this measurement to cut the top and bottom borders. Sew top and bottom borders onto quilt top.
- Measure from the top to the bottom of quilt top. Use this measurement to cut side borders. Piece two strips together to make the Strip long enough. Sew side borders in place.
