Notes:
- Finished Size: 16" x 16"
- All seam allowances are 1/4" unless noted.
- Fat 1/4 = approximately 18" x 21"
- To make piecing the curved seams easier, find and mark the center of each of the curved seams. Match the centers and pin. Do the same with the ends. A few extra pins in between will hold everything in place while sewing the seam.
Piecing the Mini Double Wedding Ring:
- Sew one end arc piece, three symmetrical arc pieces and one end piece reversed together to make an arc. Press. Repeat 15 more times for a total of 16 pieced arcs: eight in yellow to pink shades and eight in blue to green shades.
- Using the photo as a guide, lay out all the pieced and solid arcs on a design wall and rearrange until satisfied with the look. Fit missing squares into the layout to connect the arc pieces around the melon shapes. A pink square will fill in one end of a pieced melons and a blue will fill in the other end.
- For the first half of the pieced melons, sew an arc to one side of a newspaper print small melon piece. Press. Repeat 11 more times.
- To finish the pieced melons, sew squares in place to each end of the remaining arcs.
- Sew the two halves of the pieced melons together, finger-pressing centers and matching seams. Press. Repeat 11 more times for a total of 12 pieced melons. See Diagram 1.
- Sew a pieced melon to the top and bottom of a background center. Next sew a melon to each side of this unit to form a large circle. See Diagram 2. Repeat to form the units shown in Diagram 3.
- Sew the large circles to the partial circles. See Diagram 3.
- Sew center curve together, matching seam from both sides. See Diagram 4.
- Sew piping with rounded piping trim towards the center, around the perimeter of the pieced Mini Double Wedding Ring. Fold the raw edge under to reveal the piping trim.
- Lay batting on table. Place the yellow floral pillow background square on top of the batting and place the Mini Double Wedding Ring in the center. Pin in place.
- Sew in the seam where the piping meets the Mini Double Wedding Ring to attach all layers.
- Quilt as desired.
Finishing:
- Layer the pillow top and pillow back, right sides together. Pin and sew with 1/2" seam allowance, leaving an opening approximately 8" long to insert pillow form.
- Clip excess fabric in the corners on the diagonal. Turn right side out, insert the pillow form and whipstitch closed.
