Notes:
- Finished Size: 43" x 44"
- All seam allowances are 1/4" unless noted.
- WOF = width of fabric
Piecing the Quilt Top:
- To make each star, sew shapes in the following order:
- Sew a pair of gray and colored Right Triangles, right sides together, along the diagonal seam to form a rectangle. Press towards the darker color. Repeat until all Half-Square Triangles are sewn together to form rectangles.
- Sew a pair of gray and colored Half-Square Triangles, right sides together, along the diagonal seam to form a square. Press towards the darker color. Repeat until all Half-Square Triangles are sewn together to form squares.
- Sew one Right Triangle unit to one Half-Square Triangle unit as shown in photo. Make a total of four of these units for each star.
- Sew two rows in this order: one gray 3 1/2" Square to one Right Triangle/Half-Square Triangle to one gray 3 1/2" Square.
- Sew one row in this order: one Right Triangle/Half-Square Triangle to one 3 1/2" colored Square to one Right Triangle/Half-Square Triangle.
- As shown in picture, sew the three rows together to complete the star.
- Sew three sets of three gray 3 1/2" Strips together.
- To create the green star unit, cut one gray Strips set into two pieces, measuring 6 1/4" and 27 1/4" long.
- Sew the green star in between the two Strip pieces as shown in photo.
- To create the orange star unit, cut one gray Strips set into two pieces, measuring 6 1/2" and 27" long.
- Sew the orange star in between the two Strip pieces as shown in photo.
- To create the blue star unit, cut one gray Strips set into two pieces, measuring 23 1/2" and 10 1/2" long.
- Sew the blue star in between the two Strip pieces as shown in photo.
- Layout the rest of the quilt top in this manner: two gray 3 1/2" Strips, green star unit, one gray 3 1/2" Strip, orange star unit, one gray 3 1/2" Strip, blue star unit, two gray 3 1/2" Strips.
- Sew rows together.
Finishing:
- Layer the backing, batting and quilt top. Quilt by hand or machine, as desired.
- Sew binding strips together to form one long strip. Fold wrong sides together lengthwise and press.
- With a 1/4" seam, sew the raw edges of the binding to the edges of the right side of the quilt. Turn the folded edge of the binding to the back side of the quilt and stitch in place by hand, mitering the corners.
