Cutting the Shapes:
- In eCAL2, go to the eshape store, and search for a house and bat. Purchase the shapes shown above or similar shapes.
- Prepare your shapes to the desired sizes.
- Choose a font to spell "BOO." The Ravie font was used in this project. The letters were sized to 8.878" x 4.915". Also make a 0.24" shadow around your letters for the black background to the original letters.
- Place the green fabric, fabric side down onto the Fabric Cutting Mat. Press firmly.
- Load the Fabric Cutting Mat, and cut when ready. If using scrap pieces, make sure to use "Laser Cut Preview" to ensure you will cut the shape correctly.
- When cutting both the green and black letters make sure to cut them in "Mirror Image."
- Take the "Shadow Effect" letter and the bat and place them together on the eCAL2 cutting area. The bat is sized 4.644" x 4.672". Place black fabric, fabric side down onto the Fabric Cutting Mat. Press firmly.
- Load the Fabric Cutting Mat, and cut when ready. If using scrap pieces, make sure to use "Laser Cut Preview" to ensure you will cut the shape correctly.
- When finished cutting pull shapes and leftover fabric off the Fabric Cutting Mat.
- Cut the purple and yellow house shapes. The house is sized 6.729" x 11.719". Make sure to size the house to the desired size before "Ungrouping" the windows and door from the completed house outline.
Assembling the Project:
- Fold the outside piece of the bag in half and iron a crease to help with the layout.
- Assemble the house, bat and letters on the bag fabric.
- Heat fuse the assembled haunted house, bat and letters to the bag front.
- Stitch around each individual piece with the coordinating colored thread if desired.
- Fold the lining of the bag in half right sides together and stitch the edges. Leave the top open and a 2" opening on one side.
- Repeat for the outside pieces of the bag still leaving the top open, but do not leave a 2" opening.
- Trim the 2 1/2" wide Strip to 21" to form handles. Pin each one down 2" from the outside seam onto both sides of the outside bag piece.
- Box the bottom of the lining and the outside of the bag using a 1" seam, and trim off the excess seam allowance.
- Place the outside of the bag inside the inside bag piece right sides together. Pin and sew all the way around the exterior of the bag. Turn right side out using the 2" opening on the side. Press both the 2" opening and the top edge of the bag. Sew a decorative stitch around the top edge of the bag.
- Close the 2" side opening by hand or machine as desired.
