Notes:
- Finished Size: 42" x 48"
- The quilt uses three variations of the Diamond Sampler block and plays with the placement of lights and darks. Cutting numbers are approximate for the scrappy blocks as shown in the picture. There may be a few pieces left over.
- All seam allowances are 1/4" unless noted.
- WOF = width of fabric
- Arrange pieces for each block as desired using the photo as a guide.
Piecing the Four-Patch Diamond Block:
- With right sides together, sew along the side of the top pair of triangles (see Diagram 3). Repeat with the bottom pair of triangles. Press the seam allowance in opposite directions.
- Sew these two pairs together, pinning at the center intersection. Press the seam.
- Complete the block following the large diamond block directions.
Piecing the Nine-Patch Diamond Block:
- Sew three diamonds in a row (see Diagram 1). (Note: For proper alignment, diamond edges should intersect at the 1/4" seam line.) Press the seam allowance in opposite directions.
- Sew the other two rows in the same way. Press the seams of the middle row in the opposite direction.
- Sew these three rows together creating a larger diamond, pinning seams where they intersect at the 1/4" seam line (see Diagram 2). Press.
- Complete the block following the large diamond block directions.
Piecing the Large Diamond Block:
- Sew two triangles to the opposite sides of a large diamond. One end of the triangle is dog-eared to align easily with the edge of the diamond (see Diagram 4). Press the seams toward the dark side.
- Sew two triangles to the remaining two sides of the diamond to finish the block (see Diagram 5).
Finishing:
- Layer the backing, batting and quilt top. Quilt by hand or machine as desired.
- Sew the binding Strips together to form one long Strip. Fold wrong sides together lengthwise, and press.
- With a 1/4" seam, sew the raw edges of the binding to the edges of the right side of the quilt. Turn the folded edge of the binding to the back side of the quilt, and stitch in place by hand, mitering the corners.
