Hello there! Melanie here from the QSA (Quilt, Sewing, and Applique) Team inside Sizzix. I can't wait to share with you this next quilt that I had the pleasure of making. One of the NEW dies that was released in May is a Sailboat by Jorli. Don't let the size fool you, this small die packs quite a punch! It just begs for you to make a whole host of Sailboats because one is just not enough.

Part of what makes it so much fun is how fast this quilt goes. Once you decide on colors, all that’s left to do is assemble the boats. I went full force and cut a bunch of pieces and then got to playing (giddy like a kid) with all my pieces. The flags are directional and I made sure to cut them going both ways.

Once I decided on 12 different Sailboat designs I then stitched them down with coordinating color threads because I used a Lightweight fusible and plan to use this quilt. Then I set them aside until I had finished my Quarter Square Triangle blocks.

I have to admit that I LOVE Quarter Square Triangles since I get to cut them using a die. I think if I didn’t have my Sizzix tools to help me, I would run from them instead of embracing them as fully as I have in this last year. Once all the pieces are cut, I kept them in sets and set to chain piecing the QST pieces together.

Making sure to iron each of the seams in the opposite direction so that the seams match up and then lay flat.

I took care to pin at the center seam and both of the ends of the set. I do not always use pins, but I thought it would be best in this situation due to the length of the seam.

Once the newest seam is ironed all 13 blocks are ready to be laid out.

This part is also fun because the block rotates and creates a pattern within itself and it begs to extend itself even out into the border. Even if you may not be a border lover, this one will appeal to you, and it is easier than it looks.

The remaining colored triangles need to be turned into a Flying Geese block together with the Blue Polka dot.

This layout is so easy and so much fun, I hope that you have as much fun creating this quilt as I did.
