With Love Card Project by Emma Williams

Hi everyone!

Hope you’re all well and I’m so happy to be joining you today sharing my latest project combining some of the gorgeous dies from Tim Holtz’s recent Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 releases for 2020.

This card uses the beautiful Funky Wreath’s die set which is so delicate in it’s style and design and I thought it would be perfect as a focal point on my vintage style card, which has plenty of texture and dimension all created using dies.

You will need:

How to make:

1. Create a card blank from kraft card, to measure 15 x 17cm and place in front of you with the fold at the top.

2. Cut two panels of Mixed Media Heavystock Card, 12.5 x 15cm. Apply Old Paper Distress Ink to your glass mat and spritz with a light misting of water. Swipe the card panels through the ink, picking up as much as you can and if needed dip the card a second time into the ink. Heat dry before repeating this process using the following inks; Pumice Stone Distress Ink, Pumice Stone Oxide Ink, Old Paper Oxide Ink.

3. Once happy with the colour of your card, and ensuring the card is thoroughly dry, place the hexagonal Repeat Pattern die at the top of the card panel, attaching it with some low tack tape to prevent it from moving. When you look at the repeat dies, you will notice that one side of the die is flat with no cutting blades and you need to place this at the top of the panel. Run the card through a die cutting machine.

4. Once you remove the die, pop out all the excess pieces with a pick and then to cut out the repeat section of the pattern, align the flat side/no blade part of the die with the cut pattern and attach it with the low tack tape and once again, run the die through the machine. Repeat until you have die cut a pattern to cover the majority of the card panel.

5. After machine stitching a border around the outside of the die cut panel, matt the panel onto the second piece of card and attach with Matte Collage Medium.

6. Seal the top of the panel with some more medium.

7. Once thoroughly dry, randomly dab the surface of the Pattern Repeat panel and around the sides of the kraft card card blank with a glue stick. Whilst the glue is still tacky, place gold foil transfer sheets, shiny side uppermost over the top of the tacky glue and transfer the foil to the card surfaces.

8. Matt the panel onto cream card, followed by a layer of hessian and a final layer of pink card, each time leaving a border around the outside. Mount the matted panels onto the kraft card blank.

9. Cut a strip of card, inked with the same colours as the background, measuring 12.5 x 1.5cm and matt onto gold metallic kraft card. Cut a strip of gold metallic kraft stash, 8cm in length. Die cut ‘With Love’ from gold metallic card, using the Alphanumeric Label die set and attach the lettering onto the gold strip.

10. Apply a small amount of Ground Espresso Distress Paint over the top of the gold panel and leave for 30 seconds to dry before wiping away the excess with a cloth but allowing the paint to accentuate the areas around the lettering.

11. Attach two Metallic Droplets to either side of the message. Matt the border strip onto a strip of hessian before attaching the completed message plaque across the bottom of the card.

12. Ink up another piece of mixed media card, repeating the process of step 2 but this time using the following inks and sprays; Peeled Paint, Bundled Sage, Iced Spruce and Bundled Sage Oxide Spray. Once the card is dry, cut one wreath and several pieces of the co-ordinating foliage from the green card. Using the second wreath die and foliage, die cut a piece of kraft card and ink the die cuts with Gathered Twigs and Walnut Stain Distress Inks.

13. Assemble wreath by layering the green die cut over the top of the brown wreath. Arrange and attach all the smaller die cut pieces onto the wreath.

14. Using the spiky flower from the Funky Florals 3 die set, die cut three layers of card.

15. Ink the larger petals with Spun Sugar and Tattered Rose Distress Inks before lightly inking the ends of the stamens with Peeled Paint Distress Ink. Layer each of the three petal die cuts over the top of one another, slightly offsetting them each time and shaping the petals for a more realistic look. Add the stamen die cuts to the centre, again layering the three sections on top of one another.

16. Attach the flower to the wreath using hot glue.

17. Place a Metallic Dewdrop to the centre of the flower before attaching the completed flower to the wreath. Adhere the wreath onto the front of the card, placing it above the border strip.

18. Apply small dots of Nuvo Crystal Drops directly onto the wreath and leave to dry.

19. Dye a small strip of seam binding ribbon with Antique Linen and Frayed Burlap Distress Spray Stains and after heat drying the ribbon, tie into a small bow and tuck it underneath the flower on the wreath. Add two decorative pins.

20. Finally, to complete the card and add the final touch, I used the stitches or ‘x’s’ die from the Media Marks die set and die cut 10 of these from brown card. I then attached each of them to the card, placing them down the sides and on either side of the message plaque to create the look of little stitches.

Thank you so much for stopping by today and I hope you’ve enjoyed all the tips and techniques that I’ve used to create this card ~ it was such a enjoyable piece to make and is now ready to be sent with love!

See you again very soon,

Emma x
