What you will need:

It's that fantastic time of year when we can get out our butterfly dies and stamps to make some spring and summer themed projects. Card making has become more and more important as a way to connect with our loved ones. Here's a good idea for a lovely valentines card I created using some new stamps and inks available on our website.

Step 1

Take a sheet of white card, or if you'd prefer a shade of colour, go with one of the paler colours in our card stock range so that the ink will still stand out. I would recommend Arctic Sky or Ballet Slipper from our ColorStory range.

Using different butterfly stamps from the 'Flutter' cling mount stamp set, stamp some butterflies in any pattern. make sure to re-apply ink to the stamp each time for a clear and bold image.

Step 2

One by one, apply each color of distress ink to your craft mat directly by taking off the lid, and rubbing the ink on the surface. Spray the ink with water once or twice to dilute. Using your plastic palette knife take some water on the end and flick the droplets by holding the handle in one hand, placing the thumb of the other hand on the base of the knife and using your pointing finger to flick the ink.

Use the same technique of applying the ink directly to the mat and watering down. Take a fine paintbrush and, using the ink in the same way as watercolor paint, colour the butterfly stamps until you are happy with the result.

When the ink is dry, use a paper trimmer to cut a strip around the patterned area. I cut mine approximately 2 x 4 inches.

I also created a card base in Ballet Slipper cardstock. I used a printer to print a Valentine's day sentiment, then cut and fold so the sentiment is positioned as shown in the image.

Finally, die cut two of the hearts from the Love hearts die set and adhere all the elements as shown.

We would love to see your beautiful makes, please share all of your crafting projects with us using the hashtag #mymakingstory!
