Mixed Media: Is it time to try a new craft?

We’re encouraging all Sizzix fans to try something new this New Year, that could be mixing up the types of projects you create or even trialing a new making style. Mixed Media is a craft we really love and this blog post explores it in a little more depth.

Mixed Media

What is Mixed Media crafting?

Mixed media crafting allows you to come out of your comfort zone and try out some new materials and techniques, don’t just stick to your usual craft stash! A mixed media masterpiece can include anything from Wood and Decoupage Papers, Cork and Texture Roll and even Adhesives and Paints and Pastes and Waxes.

The collaboration of all or some of these materials can result in plenty of unique creations, including journal and scrapbook pages, cards and home décor makes, all featuring an abundance of texture and dimension! The great thing is once you start experimenting with mixed media techniques, you’ll find that there are no rules – it’s fun and allows your creativity to flow!

Techniques

If you’re a total newbie to this making type then blending and mixing is a great place to start! You can experiment with mixing Embossing Powders to make your very own or color combination or blend Inks with sponges to add some detail and depth to your projects. If you’re confident you know what you’re doing after this, it might be time to start experimenting with Spray Mists, Texture Pastes and different materials to create something totally unique.

The Sizzix Youtube channel is full of fantastic ideas on Mixed Media crafts and techniques, and the one below by Pete Hughes is just one of them!
